Gran Hotel La Florida is a unique setting where you can contemplate true works of art including sculptures and suites designed by internationally recognized artists.
The award winning designer Dale Keller and his wife Patricia handled much of the interior design of the hotel with their usual flair. Keller is the mind behind many of the world’s greatest hotels including Amanusa and the Four Seasons Resort in Bali.
The old charm of the hotel and its fabulous history are brought to life through beautifully presented antique photographs of the hotel and its surroundings, dating back to the 1920s and 1930s. These photos and antique engravings adorn the guest rooms and corridors of the renovated areas of the Gran Hotel.
In juxtaposition, the new areas of the hotel boast contemporary art, bringing to life the Barcelona of the 21st century. Prints of paintings by Gabriele Fettolini adorn guest rooms, while artistic photographs of the Casa Mila rooftop by Manel Armengol face out onto the courtyard atrium.
In the swimming pool & jacuzzi area, a long wall of projected interactive visual effects was especially designed for the Gran Hotel La Florida. This intriguing piece of high-tech art offers a relaxing backdrop for the guest using the pool.
Throughout the hotel we see the Catalan artist Isabel Cruellas’ signature flowers, commissioned for the grand inauguration. These stunning paintings bring to life the “modernism” ambience of the hotel’s great spaces.
SCULPTURES
British artists Ben Jakober and Yannick Vu have three works of art at Gran Hotel La Florida representing three elements:
Earth: "Brittany Granite Division"
Positioned at the hotel’s entrance this is a large natural granite sculpture split in two with a highly polished interior which gives the stone a mirror effect.
Light: "Homage to Gaudi" Fibre Optics
This is a 27 metre high fibre optic work consisting of three interlaced cones which occupies the interior courtyard of the old building.
Water: "Archimedes Fountain"
This is a 17-metre high stainless steel Archimedes spiral water fountain found in the courtyard of the new wing of the hotel.
Ben Jakober and Yannick Vu also decorated the Penthouse Loft, not as an artistic statement but as a place to feel comfortable.
