A Small Barcelona Boutique Hotel, Grand in Design, Rich In History
Keeping legendary watch above Barcelona since 1925, Gran Hotel La Florida was the dream of one man,
Dr. Andreu, whose mission was to build the finest hotel in the Catalonian capital. In 1939, the Spanish Civil
War took its toll on this historic Barcelona boutique hotel when it was used as a military hospital. The hotel
experienced a rebirth during the 1950s when it became a favourite retreat for the Catalan bourgeoisie. In
later years, Ernest Hemingway, James Stewart, George Sanders, Rock Hudson, Princess Fabiola and the Prince of
Belgium were all guests of the prestigious hotel. After falling into disrepair, this small Barcelona boutique
hotel was rescued from abandonment in 2001 during a meticulous four-year redesign, which restored the
retreat to its original grandeur. One of the most unique aspects of the renovation is its seamless synthesis of traditional
architecture with new design features – an intriguing concept establishing Gran Hotel La Florida as one of the most prestigious
addresses in all of Spain.
